Opening Ceremony of the European Youth Chess Championship Shines in Budva

The European Youth Chess Championship officially began on Tuesday, November 28th, at the vibrant Slovenska Plaža Resort in Budva, Montenegro.

The ceremony featured welcoming addresses by distinguished officials, emphasizing the importance of chess development and the honor of hosting such a prestigious competition.

Jovan Milović, President of the Chess Federation of Montenegro, greeted all participants and highlighted Montenegro’s growing place on the international chess map.

Milan Jančić, Director of the Directorate for Sports Infrastructure, and Nikola Jovanović, Mayor of Budva Municipality, also expressed their support and enthusiasm for the championship and its role in promoting youth sports and cultural exchange.

The event was officially declared open by Zurab Azmaiparashvili, President of the European Chess Union, who wished all competitors an inspiring and fair tournament filled with unforgettable memories.

As part of the cultural program, a short educational film about the history of chess in Montenegro was presented, showcasing the country’s strong tradition in the game. The audience also enjoyed a musical performance before the evening concluded with a spectacular fireworks display that lit up the Budva coastline.

With top young talents competing over the board in a motivating environment, Budva promises an exciting days of strategy, competition, and friendship. The European Youth Chess Championship is officially underway!
